Bonnie Cutts
Bonnie Cutts’ paintings are reflections of distinct periods of the creative journey that is her life. The images, loaded with rich, emotive colors and visceral surfaces, are an invitation for the viewer to take a deep look past the exterior—and in a process mirroring self-reflection, meditate on the myriad layers below. Grounding life in its substrate, Bonnie has referenced the natural world around her drawing from places and objects in her environment on the abstract textural surfaces. She has also investigated neuro-imaging, digital images of brain cells, drawing inspiration from them and pushing her imagery in new directions.
Bonnie offers technical lectures about acrylic materials in college classrooms and for a variety of artists’ groups, art centers and organizations. She also teaches workshops across the country focusing on information about and innovative applications of acrylic materials.
The process of painting is as important to Bonnie as the finished artwork; what is not visible is as important as what is seen. She finds a true sense of discovery in her work and is always interested in the next place or thing to see, the next move to make, and the next image to paint.
