Jenny Granberry
I’ve never not made art.
I started drawing and painting as a small child and as I grew older my interests never turned anywhere else. I’ve always maintained a very active studio practice throughout my adult life.
Though I have worked in acrylic, oils and watercolor, the constant in my work is the human form. I use portraiture and the figure to illustrate whatever might be running through my brain at the time.
Because of the personal nature of my work I often depict myself, or friends and family so that I can closely connect with each piece. The subjects of my work find themselves in vague settings and often appearing not quite pulled together creating a sense that it’s all taking place in a psychological plane. Whether the piece comes from a place of negativity or is upbeat I use ordinary clothing, props and models so the work feels relatable to the viewer.
